About 100 years ago I was tagged by the beautiful Kelly over at Unapologetically Kelly to do the Stay at Home book tag. Here it is… it was harder than I thought it was going to be!
Laying in Bed: A book you read in one day
Don’t Think a Single Thought is different from any other book I’ve read in the past few years. It’s more a short essay into one woman’s descent into oblivion. Hearing voices, self medicating, taking chances, trying to please her husband and all the while carrying the burden of guilt from an incident from her past. I reviewed this one back in February – my wee review is here.
Snacking: A book that is a ‘guilty pleasure’ read
No book should be seen as a guilty pleasure. Not one. No, not even Fifty Shades. Or Twilight. I love Twilight…
Netflix: A series that you want to start
ACOTAR. ACOTAR. What the f*ck is ACOTAR?!
That acronym has been all over book twitter for years and my curiosity has finally got the better of me – it’ll go on the vast TBR pile at some point very soon.
Deep Clean: A book that has been on your TBR for ages
There’s a few but the first one that comes to mind is Apple of my Eye by Claire Allan. I’m not sure why I’ve not read it yet as it’s just my type of book! The paperback has been sitting on my trolly since it was released – maybe soon…
Animal Crossing: A book you recently bought because of the hype
This one has to be American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins. There was such an uproar when it was published that I wanted to read it and make up my own mind. My conclusions can be found here.
By the way – I LOVE Animal Crossing. Drop me a tweet and let’s be island friends!
Productivity: A book you learned from or had an impact on you
I will always recommend this book – The Miracle of Mindfulness by Thich Nhat Hanh. Don’t be put off by thinking it’s a bit ‘wooly’, it’s full of short anecdotes and ideas that you can easily apply to your own experiences. I’ve lost count of the number of copies I have gifted to people!
Facetime: A book you were gifted
I was gifted The Guest List by Roxie from An Average Life 🙂
Self-Care: What is the one thing you have done recently to look after yourself?
Lockdown has not been good on the old noggin’. Too much time to think and ruminate on things that just do not matter. I’ve been trying to make myself read and listen to calming music every day… trying to! I’ve also discovered that I like listening to podcasts and audiobooks. They’ve been really good for switching off for a couple of hours.
Bonus: An upcoming release you are looking forward to
This will always be whatever Rebus book Ian Rankin has coming out – this year it’s Rebus number 23: A Song for the Dark Times.
I’m tagging everyone who has struggled through lockdown but found some comfort in their books x
