Jason Mendez is an old-fashioned guy living in a “progressive” day that has little time for him or his friends. Bothered by the decaying conditions of the city he lives in, disturbed over the policies of an intrusive government, saddened by a species losing its identity to technology, and convinced that devious minds are to blame for everything, Jason opts to make a difference. But soon after a relationship begins to deepen with a co-worker who’s immersed in the technology he loathes; does he start to question his own identity and desires. It’s not until a mysterious man enters the fold with an ultimatum that will forever change him and the world he knows, that Jason remembers his original but secret intent.
The year is 2052. Mobile phones are old technology – the worlds population now have electronic chips inserted directly into their bodies. These chips control everything from running vehicles to sharing thoughts and memories with others. You can even tap (uninvited) into the thoughts of others with them.
Jason is one of the few who have refused the technology and the story follows him and his fight against being chipped.
Part sci-if, part romance, part futuristic thriller this book is gripping. It’s not an easy read given the way the world is heading at the moment but that’s part of what makes it so engaging.
I received a copy of this book direct from the author in return for an honest and unbiased review. Anthony has written a really thought provoking novel… one which, in part, lead to my mobile phone detox (more on that here). He’s proven himself to be a gentleman over on Twitter and I’m happy to have made his acquaintance. All the very best of luck with your book Anthony!
A scarily sci-fi 4 stars.
